About The Collection:
In late January after a spell of slight insomnia, one night I caught a glimpse of my wife asleep. The light contrasting shape and form in a perfect way and I immediately went to the studio to try and recreate these forms and shapes. It was then I realized just how difficult it can be to portray sleep within a composition. The figure is still and silent. Life is dormant.
The idea consumed me then, to bring life to an otherwise dormant state. When we sleep we dream, and in my dreams, there is a stage set with a cast of unknown actors. Silently speaking and miming communication.
This series was born within this concept.
In this body of work, I present fourteen oil paintings, each representing either sleep or a character from dreams. The oil works feature a juxtaposition of bold cubist shapes and thick impasto oil color , off set with pieces softly shaded with oil washes of varying tints of white hand mixed in the studio.
The Paintings are available to acquire framed or just the panel itself. The Frames area a beautiful antiqued gold frame. A nice thick profile fro the larger pieces, and a slimmer profile for the smaller works.
Also accompanying the paintings are two editions of Lino Prints. Printed in a Dark Royal Blue Ink on Archival Artists Paper.
